Lightless Voids
It was my senior year, I was sitting in Cosmology class learning about photon spheres, also known as a Last Photon Orbit. This phenomena occurs around supermassive black holes. An example is a photon emitted from the back of one's head, while orbiting a black hole, this photon is intercepted by the person's eyes, allowing one to see the back of their own head.
I graduated in 2013, but these concepts have never left me. Learning of Gliese 710, a star that will likely pass within our own solar system, within the Oort Cloud, perturbing comets, potentially causing a future impact event. It’s all very sobering and fascinating stuff.
These concepts swirled around in my mind for years, eventually becoming the ambient soundscape Lightless Voids.
